Call for artists interested in producing the Maldives Tourism Golden Jubilee theme song

The year 2022 will mark the 50th anniversary for Maldives tourism industry. As part of the year-long celebrations and promotion, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) is partnering with the Musicians’ Union of Maldives to produce a theme song for the occasion.

This is a paid opportunity for artists interested in producing the theme song for the Maldives Tourism Golden Jubilee. The chosen artist will be awarded MVR 50,000 by MoT for the production. The song will be used in tourism promotion materials produced throughout the year by the ministry and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) for local and international audiences.

*Interested artists are NOT REQUIRED to submit a demo song. Shortlisted artists will be contacted by the Union.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • The submission is open for Maldivians who are 18 years of age or older on the date of song submission.

  • The submission can have multiple artists.

  • The submission must contain multiple languages. Priority will be given to submissions containing 3 or more languages, (Italian, Spanish, German, Russian, Chinese or Arabic) which will be an added advantage.

  • The submission must be unpublished, unreleased, and the sender must possess all legal rights (even from their team) to the song in its entirety and the individual needs to have permission from their company for the release.


SONG REQUIREMENTS

Song Structure

  • The song should have a clear theme or cohesive idea reflecting Maldives tourism.

  • The song should have clear, identifiable sections i.e: verse, chorus, bridge, etc.

  • The song should be between 2:30 to 5 minutes.

  • Singing is mandatory. However, how much is not said.

  • Song versions

    • Full version

    • Social media (30 seconds to 1 minute)

    • Jingle(s) of the song (5 seconds maximum)

Arrangement and Composition

  • The music should contain (traditional) local sounds/instruments.

  • The music and melody should add to the emotional impact of the song.

  • The music should keep the listener interested and engaged.

  • The music and lyrics should be structured cohesively.

Lyrics

  • The lyrics should evoke an emotional response from the listener.

  • The lyrics should be easy to sing-along to and memorable.

  • The lyrics should have an identifiable rhyme scheme or pattern.

  • The preferred language for the chorus is Dhivehi.

Originality

  • The song should express the theme in a new or fresh way.

  • The song should be memorable.

  • The song should have promotional value/potential.

Audio Profile

  • Codec: WAV

  • Sample rate: 44.1kHz recommended. Higher sample rates are accepted but not required (for example, 48kHz or 96kHz).

  • Bit depth: 24-bit recommended, 16-bit acceptable

  • Channels: 2 (stereo)
