Detune Band has been selected by Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and Musicians’ Union of Maldives (M.U.M) to produce the theme song for the ‘Golden Year of Tourism’ in Maldives, which will be celebrated in 2022.
The paid opportunity of MVR 50,000 for the production was rewarded to Detune band as the band met all the requirements specified in the guideline.
The ‘Golden Year of Tourism’ song will be used in tourism promotion materials produced throughout the year by the Ministry and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), for local and international audiences.
Founded in 2006, Detune band consists of five members - Fathimath Fezleen, Ahmed Furqan, Hassan Fathih Abdul Gafoor, Ahmed Asif and Ali Shafiu. The band performs a variety of diverse genres like funk, electric, acoustics, jazz, reggae, blues, classical and Maldivian music and has an impressive resumé which includes being the creators of their first album, as well as the producers for a collection of theme songs and awareness songs.
The band’s first album ‘One Down’ was produced in 2014 - an album written and composed together by all members of the band. The album is a creation the band cherishes as they are all original compositions based on their real-life experiences of the journey they took as a family.
As part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR), the band has produced many songs such ‘Peace is Possible’, a theme song for Junior Chamber International Maldives (JCI), ‘Aafeshun’, an awareness song in tribute to cancer patients - a collaboration with the Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM), Autism Awareness Song - a song produced in collaboration with Imaduddin School and ‘Maaraamarin’ a song produced for Television Maldives (TVM) to battle gang violence in Maldives.
The band are also the producers of State Trading Organization (STO)’s anniversary songs (2017 & 2020) and has previously represented Maldives globally - at the ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) in the years 2007 and 2014.
The Union would like to congratulate Detune band on receiving this opportunity and anticipates the production of their new song.
